In 2004 the Franklin County Sheriff's Office won three Highway Safety Awards.  In the Georgia Governor's Challenge Franklin County won the Underage Alcohol Prevention Award and Second Place in the Sheriff's Category.  In the National Law Enforcement Challenge, sponsored by the IACP International Association of Chief's of Police and the National Sheriff's Association, Franklin Co. won Second place in the Sheriff's 2 category.  Lt. Chris Looney, went to Los Angeles California to receive the National Award at the IACP convention in November 2004.
